abruzzowalks.com was created from Tanya’s passion for Abruzzo; the warmth of the people, variety of scenery, and cuisine it offers.
Tanya has been based in Penne, Abruzzo, Italy, since 2006.  She was taken aback by the beauty of  Abruzzo, the charm of villages where time has stood still. She created abruzzowalks.com so that walking in the region can become more accessible, as it is truly the most wild and beautiful part of Italy, having the largest area of national parks in Europe. Many rare and interesting flowers can be seen on the walks.

A passionate walker for many years abruzzowalks.com has provided a welcome chance to share these hikes with groups of people from all ages and backgrounds.

Tanya trained towards mountain guiding with her mentor Iain Davidson www.iaindavidson.com
In the Highlands of Scotland, obtaining qualifications in Navigation, Group Management, Risk Assessment, and Emergency Procedures. She holds a current outdoor first aid certificate.
English is Tanya’s mother tongue but if you’d like to brush up your Italian on the walks she’s more than willing to converse in Italian.

abruzzowalks.com is based in the little city of Penne, is a delightful and dynamic place, under an hour from Pescara Airport, and 40 minutes from the sandy beaches of the Adriatic, with ruins date back to the Bronze Age. Once a Roman city, it is written that St Patras (one of Jesus’ 72 nominated disciples) was the first bishop of Penne.

Framing the local panoramic views are the Apennines featuring the Maiella and Gran Sasso mountain ranges. Closer to town are the patchwork hills and the WWF wildlife sancturary of the Lake of Penne, where 210 speices of birds can be found.

In the majority Penne is built in terracotta, it’s fired brick narrow streets reveal numerous palaces and old churches, as well as all the facilities you would expect from a living breathing town.

Abruzzo is one of the best kept secrets of the Italians. It’s landscape is strong and gentle, with profound contrasts; mountains and hillsides, cities and countryside, sandy beaches, coves, grottos, and waterfalls.
